This 42 hectare (102 acres) East End public park is extremely popular with local residents and the wider community. Park users have always found Alexandra Park pleasant and well laid out and the highest point of the park gives views North to Ben Lomond and South to the Tinto Hills. The main pedestrian entrance into the park is through the main ornamental gates leading from Alexandra Parade into an impressive formal seasonal and carpet bedding display area leading round to the small formal rose garden.

Auchinlea Park

Auchinlea Park is at the edge of Easterhouse on the outskirts of Glasgow. Originally 74 acres in size, the park is now a compact 20 acres due to the development of the Glasgow FORT retail centre which now forms the southern boundary of the park.

Cathkin Braes Country Park

Highest point in Glasgow with breathtaking city views

Cathkin Braes Country Park covers a large area (199 Hectares/ 493 Acres) in the south east of Glasgow. It is rich in history and a familiar landmark on the southern skyline reaching 200 metres above sea level, the highest point in Glasgow. The park is renowned for panoramic views over the city and beyond including the Gleniffer Braes and the Kilpatrick and Campsie ranges. On a clear day many familiar mountain peaks can be seen. The natural environment of the park with abundant informal paths, ancient woodland, grassland, heath and scrub is ideal for walking, picnics, informal recreation and environmental study.

Darnley Mill Park

Darnley Mill Park is a 39 Hectare (96 Acres) Site of Importance for Nature Conservation in the southwest of the city. Its mosaic of habitats supports a diverse range of animals and plants and provides an attractive area for walks.

Dawsholm Park

Local Nature Reserve with Highland Cattle grazing

It is situated on the River Kelvin, north of the River Clyde. The park covers an area of 33 ha (81.5 acres), and consists mostly of woodland, with some grass and wildflower meadows in the southeast area of the park. The park was created from lands purchased by Glasgow City Council from Sir Archibald Campbell of Succoth, in 1922. As well as the woodland area (originally called the Belvidere plantation), the Council also purchased some grassy areas to the south of the woodland. Sir Archibald then gifted an area of land contaminated with oil shale waste adjoining the eastern boundary of the woodland. The council levelled and grassed over that area to form a recreation area laid out with football pitches. The woodland area of the park has always been kept in a natural state, and in 2007 Glasgow City Council designated the park as a Local Nature Reserve. As part of the environmental and ecological work in the park, Highland Cattle are being used in a managed grazing programme on the grassy areas, to encourage the development of wildflower meadows.

Glasgow Botanic Gardens

Historic gardens with the iconic Kibble Palace glasshouse

It was in 1817 that Thomas Hopkirk, a distinguished Glasgow botanist, founded the Botanic Gardens with the support of a number of local dignitaries and the University of Glasgow. The Gardens were originally laid out on an 8 acre site at Sandyford at the western end of Sauchiehall Street (at that time, on the edge of the city). The Royal Botanical Institution of Glasgow owned and ran the Gardens and agreed to provide the University of Glasgow with teaching aids, including a supply of plants for medical and botanical classes.

Glasgow Green

Oldest city park with rich history and Green Flag status

Glasgow Green is a 55 hectares/136 acres site and is by far the oldest of the city's parks. It is situated within walking distance of the city centre, east of the Saltmarket. The Glasgow Green was awarded a Green Flag in 2011. The Green Flag Award is the benchmark national standard for quality parks and green spaces.

Hogganfield Park

Loch-side park with rare bird species and Green Flag award

The main attraction of the park is Hogganfield Loch, a large shallow loch with a wooded island. Hogganfield Park is a 48 hectares/119 acres site and is excellent for bird watching or simply walking. Access is very easy, with a tarmac path all the way around the loch edge. There is a wide variety of water birds on the loch, including some rarities. The park was awarded a Green Flag in 2013. The Green Flag Award is the benchmark national standard for quality parks and green spaces.

This Sir Joseph Paxton designed park is a 34 hectares/85 acres site and a classic example of a Victorian park. Its design and setting on the banks of the River Kelvin enhance and complement the many magnificent buildings which surround the world renowned Art Gallery and Museum prominently featured within it.

The park is a 26 Hectares/64 Acres site. To the east the site is amenity grass with play facilities and to the west lies the Donald Dewar Leisure Centre. The majority of the site is a city-wide site of importance for nature conservation, with wetland, wet woodland and heathland habitat.

Linn Park

Linn Park is the second largest park in the city has a variety of activities. The northern reaches of the park are historically interesting containing the old Snuffmill Bridge and the remains of Cathcart Castle. The park has an outstanding diversity of wildlife, habitat and plant life. Ranging from open grassland, scrub land, deciduous and coniferous woodland to the riverbank environment. The diversity of fauna and flora within the park is truly outstanding given the relatively close proximity to the hustle and bustle of the city Centre. The park also boasts an 18 hole golf course with stunning views over Glasgow.

Pollok Country Park

The park is Glasgow's largest park and the only Country Park within Glasgow. Its extensive woodlands and gardens provide a quiet sanctuary for both visitors and wildlife. The park is rich in rural history formerly being part of the Old Pollok Estate and ancestral home to the Maxwell Family. The park is also home to the world famous Burrell Collection. Pollok Country Park has been successful in achieving a Green Flag Award in 2016. This has been retained every year since 2012.
